We plan to add a new window to our house. A white vinyl window was ordered by mistake by a friend of ours who was trying to help. We have a Tudor style house with brown windows and trims. What are our options in changing the white vinyl window to brown? We were suggested to paint the vinyl, or take it to body shop. Will painting or spray paint work ? Any how to suggestions from those who have done it?

Should the measure be to the stud? The window we’re taking out is not to the stud. There is about about and inch all the way around between the old wood window and the stud. Is this supposed to be that way? Seems to me that they originally did this wrong. Should there be a gap that big?

So how should we measure? From the exact size of the old window, or the the studs on the sides?

I can not figure out. After one huge rainy day, one of our vinyl window had a leak. Just the one window.
I checked the room and attic above this window but did not find any leakage.
I covered the outside of the window with plastic bags and duct tape for now.
When it rains hard, it still leaks.
I appreciate the good suggestions what to do.
